Mary Katherine Canupp

My education has been a lifelong journey.  Through my experience I have learned that we are never finished learning. There is always more for us to know. For that reason, I have made both long term and short term goals for my education. These goals will keep me on track while I continue my educational journey to gain the knowledge I desire. 

Short-Term Goals

• Complete my Associate of Arts Transfer degree at SPCC and maintain my 3.6 GPA

• Apply to NC State University for the Leadership in the Public Sector online Bachelor's degree program to begin in the Fall of 2019

• Complete my Accounting and Finance Certificate from SPCC during the Spring and Summer of 2019.

Long-Term Goals

• Complete my Bachelor's degree at NC State by Spring 2021

• After securing a position in college admissions by Summer 2021, continue my education through professional development classes.

• Select and apply for a Masters degree program for Fall 2021

With my educational path changing course so many times it has taken me a while to figure out what I desire to accomplish professionally. Through this journey I have found the desire to help guide others to achieve their goals. A career in college admissions will be an ideal way for me to assist others in their pursuit of higher education to improve their lives. I can use not only my education but my experience to help students navigate their path with fewer obstacles and detours. To become the best college adviser I can be I have set the following professional goals.

Short-Term Goals

• Secure a full-time position in a college office by Fall 2019 

• Volunteer in the academic advising office Summer of 2019

• Interview a college adviser to learn what steps to take toward securing a position in the field during Spring 2019​

Long-Term Goals

• Secure a full-time position working in the registrar's office of a university or in the college admissions office by Fall 2021

• Join a professional organization for college advisers and registrars, such as the American Association for Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Advisers by Spring 2026

• Secure adviser position in the admissions office by 2026

With any journey we should stop and enjoy the view and sites along the way. Life is meant to be enjoyed and without those soul enriching moments we can not continue to pursue our educational and professional goals with the same zeal. To have a fully satisfying life it must be balanced between work, school and personal time. I have set the following personal goals to insure that my life continues to be abundant and fulfilling. 

Short-Term Goals

• Begin walking three days a week by Summer 2019

• Take a week-long trip with my three daughters before school starts in Fall 2019

• Start volunteering at a new non-profit in the Fall of 2019

Long-Term Goals

• Go on a cruise with my daughters in January/ February 2021

• Go on a tour of Europe the summer of 2021, after graduation from the University

• Update my retirement plan by 2025 by meeting with a financial adviser
