Officer in charge of Special Events

Through this office I learned to organize and carry-out details of events designed to benefit the student body of SPCC.

I gained organizational skills and learned to work with a group to delegate tasks. Our efforts were not always successful as in the movie night we planned but we were successful in working as a team and completing a project.

Through this organization I gained a sense of confidence and leadership skills. Those skills have allowed me to organize numerous successful events since my time as an officer in PTK.

SPCC Technology Awareness

Since learning is part of my life-long journey I enrolled in a class through the Human Resource Development program at South Piedmont in 2017. This course was to further my understanding and aptitude in specific computer programs. I was successful in learning more about Microsoft products such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Through this class I found that there is always something we can learn to improve our understanding of the world around us. I had a working knowledge of Word and basic skills in Excel. After completing the class I have a deeper understanding of Word and can now create my own workbooks in Excel. There are still computer skills that I would like to improve on and plan to continue taking classes to achieve better understanding and working knowledge of those particular programs.

Academic Support Center- SPCC

For the last year, I have worked as an English and Psychology tutor in the ASC. This has been a rewarding experience as I have learned to work with college level students as well as adults who are students, and I have had the privilege of helping them become better writers. Working with them has taught me to meet each individual student where they are. No one is at the exact same spot on their learning path and each student has struggles and concerns that are unique to them and their situation. I will carry that knowledge with me to the next step of my journey.

My experience in the ASC has reinforced my decision to pursue a career in community college counseling. I found that I really do enjoy working with the college age student as well as adults who are returning to complete their education. It is a place that I feel useful and the work is rewarding. At the end of the day, I can look back and see that I made a small impact in some way to improve the lives of others.
